How it Works – Homeowners
Security and peace of mind...

Back garden

  This is the Life!
Overlooking the garden of a house being minded

It’s easy to gain the peace of mind available from having your home looked after by a mature Housesitter member of SeniorSitters. Furthermore, it’s free!

All you need to do is complete a simple registration form to become a SeniorSitters Member, then follow the link to our affiliate site to list your housesitting opportunity.

When you list, your anonymity is preserved by using the HouseCarers.com secure mail system.

When you list, the HouseCarers website will need details of your home, your requirements for Housesitters and the timing of your absence. Other details include the sitter’s duties (pet care, garden watering, mail collection, etc.) and your locality.

TestimonialYour housesitting opportunity will then be listed on the HouseCarers.com website  in such a way as to be unidentifiable. And your identity remains hidden until you choose to make it known.

Potential sitters contact you by email, introducing themselves so you may take the matter further if you wish. Another method is for you to initiate contact with one or more sitters listed on the site. Either way, the same privacy safeguards apply.

The sitter’s initial message, or website listing, will be a simple introduction with reasons why he or she should be considered suitable. It is then up to you if you want to take the transaction further. If you do, what usually happens is that you phone or email for more information, and get to know the sitter a little better. If the sitter’s location is not too far away you could even arrange a meeting, although this is not crucially important, as the testimonial above illustrates.

It’s important to remember that neither SeniorSitters nor our affiliates play any role in vetting Housesitters. Selection is a matter entirely for your own judgement. We suggest that sitters provide references and that you check them out. All too often people ignore this important step, even though it should be obvious.

Once you have selected a suitable sitter, we suggest you exchange a written agreement, setting out the terms of the sit. A simple form of agreement may be downloaded from this website. However, if you have any doubts about the agreement you should consult your professional adviser.

We also suggest that sitters obtain a National Police Certificate. This provides the sitter’s name, address and date of birth and should be less than a year old when presented to you.

In addition, we suggest that sitters provide 100 Points of Identification, similar to the requirements for opening a bank account. There is a separate web page on this in our Resources section, and we also provide a downloadable form for sitters to complete. The sitter should present these documents prior to the commencement of the sit.

Please note that once sitters approach you it is important that you reply to all messages. After all, sitters have paid for the privilege of contacting you, so it is just good manners to reply to all – even if it is only to say that you are not interested.

Finally, we speak from experience when we say housesitting is great fun. So if you are aged 50 or over why not also join the ranks of those who spend part of the year as SeniorSitters Housesitters? So, why not register now for Free Membership of SeniorSitters?
